Fun christmas present dinner for two?

My best friend and i have decided our christmas present (and my bday present) to each other will be going out to a fun, nice dinner. We'd like to find a place with good cocktails, a fun, possibly dressy atmosphere without breaking the bank ($100-120 before tip but including at least 2 drinks each...). We are thinking maybe tapas? If it's a regular menu-type of place we'd probably share an appetizer and skip dessert in favor of more drinks...Anywhere easily accessible by the T (green line) or 66/65/57 buses(to get us to the other side of the river). Deep Ellum has been our go to for nights when we are willing to spend more on drinks and dinner, so something along those lines, but perhaps dressier, would be nice. Thanks!

I just got one of my daughters (age 22) a gift certificate for $100 so she and her boyfriend can get a nice meal and some drinks at Eastern Standard, which is a real favorite. Their drinks are really fun, as is the atmosphere, and it is on the Green Line. For extensive reviews, just look at the Boston Board and you'll see more about the food, etc. I have to say that when I visit my kids in Boston, this is always popular with all of us- and their friends, too. But there are so many choices and I look forward to hearing other results for you. What a great idea.

I'll be doing this a couple of times during the holidays, too. Dining out is my favorite gift to give and receive. Eastern Standard is a good suggestion. Green Street would be another. Also, Cuchi Cuchi has a lot of fun drinks plus the tapas (actually, international small plates) you mentioned.

For very good tapas, ok beverages, fun atmosphere and located on Beacon St. in Brookline:

        TABERNA de HARO

In addition, close to the Charles St. stop on the red line is Scampo, not too pricey and lots of action in the Liberty Hotel. You could split some stuff at the bar of Sorellina in Copley Sq. or go to the new Sel de la Terre.
