    1. Is it Diep on rue de Ponthieu or on rue Pierre Charron? Both rock in their own way, but the one on rue de Ponthieu is more intimate and has a nice Peking duck menu.

Haven't been to the others, though I heard conflicting things about Apicius. Two things are sure: the location no doubt makes it the nicest restaurant in Paris with its mansion and park, and it is not very expensive given the stars and the neighbourhood.

I ate ate Apicius almost two years ago My experience was tempered somewhat by having the 7 course menu at Astrance for lunch that same afternoon. I agree with souphie that the restaurant is beautiful. I thought the food and service was excellent ; They created a small tasting menu for me: I still cry that I couldn't finish the great chocalate suffle. I also remember the young sommelier being surprised that I ordered a H. Jayer Vosne Romanee and realized what a bargain that particular wine was.

          • "..are Hounds holding back secrets??????" I don't think so, the French board is quite conservative with the same old restaurants popping up again and again. There was a post a few weeks ago asked for advice on some new restaurants, but all the ones listed opened in '06 or before, if those were new think how conservative the other selections were.

We are heading to Jadis this weekend which will be interesting, and maybe trying Le Table D'Eugene if we can get in. Both restaurants getting good press on other boards but not mentioned here. We are also booked into some regular spots (Le Cinq and Le Regalade) so it will be a nice contrast.

I try new places. But most of the time, they just suck, with their novelty being their only appeal. People come from far and we try only to advise tried and true places.

Not that I'm being defensive, mind you :D

                  1. re: souphie

I will be sure to request the Diep you have recommended Souphie ( thank you) and will report on our other choices when we return. I have reported in the past on Dominique Bouchet and perhaps a good thing that it hasn't caught on. It is a wonderful little secret!

                  2. L'Arôme is quite good - I go there often for business lunches. The restaurant is lovely and so is the staff - but the food is solid modern French with fresh ingredients. The disadvantage is that the neighborhood is barren at night...
