Vancouver, Argo Cafe

So, this morning I made the trek to Argo Cafe for breakfast. I enjoyed a fantastic steak and eggs. My steak was an extraordinarily thick tenderloin, served with two eggs, hashbrowns and a couple of slices of multigrain toast for $9.95, if I recall correctly. The food was expertly prepared.

It's a pity that this place is only open between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and that it is in the middle of an industrial area (great for the guys working around there, though); boy-oh-boy is it good.

Argo Cafe is located at 1836 Ontario Street, a short walk from the Main Street Skytrain station.

I'm thinking of taking a vegetarian friend to Argo Cafe but can't for the life of me remember if there are good veggie options there. (As a meat-eater, I'm bad at paying attention to that) Does anyone recall?

Is the list that you posted upthread still valid? (I haven't been to the Argo in months). I see French Toast, Caramelized Onion Tart, Conqueso Benedict (which I'm assuming is some sort of eggy-cheesey comestible). I have only had their carnivorous offerings.

I recall they have an email list you can get on that lists their specials but I don't know if that would help. I notice they have a spinach salad and stir fries which might be veg or made veg...

Yes I think that list is still valid... I just can't recall their weekday specials. Will report if we end up going today!

Haven't seen this posted here yet...

Argo Cafe is now open for brunch on Saturdays. They'll still have some daily specials, but a smaller selection than usual lunch fare. I haven't had a chance yet to try it but the menu looks really good and everything is $10.

In case you're interested, menu selections include:
French Toast (with caramelized bananas and chocolate chip sprinkles)
        BBQ Bangers & Hash
        Caramelized Onion Tart
        Conqueso Benedict
        Seafood Benedict
        Hawaiian Pineapple & Ham Benedict
        3 Egg Pan Omelette
        Double Patty Argo Burger
        Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich
        Shrimp&Crabmeat 2 Slice Club

I wonder what time the fun starts?

I know... I was thinking whether posting this makes it harder for me to ever get in to try it out :)

I believe that the cooks work at some high-end places in town on their night shifts. It's a great spot.

I've been twice for lunch and though their standard fare is more than adequate, it's the lunch specials that look to be the major standouts. Still thinking about the short ribs I had at the end of summer for $10.95 IIRC...

I love the Argo, a gf and I got pretty drunk really early in the summer and she crashed at my place and we were both up by 6am the next morning. We made tea, after that we were awake enought to want food. We went to the Argo and it was exactly what we wanted, plus I LOVE their hot sauce. Haven't tried anything there for lunch yet though. WIll have to keep it in mind.
