Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

E. 50's to W. 50's

Any suggestions of a restaurant in the above area? Interested in French, Italian, Thai, Asian. Budget is up to $30 for a meal. Any good dinner prix fixe menus? I looked at ViceVersa so far. Been to Nook and Uncle Nick's which I liked too. Not interested in Wondee Siam, Pam's Real Thai, some of the 9th Ave thai spots.

    1. Chez Napoleon, on 50th, b/t 8th & 9th Avs. (closer to 9th), serves solidly-prepared classic French bistro fare. They offer a 3-course prix-fixe at lunch and dinner for $30. (Includes coffee or tea, but other beverages + tax & tip additional.) Friendly, efficient service and pleasant atmospherics.

On the East Side: Montparnasse is on 51st, b/t 2nd & 3rd. We haven't been there in a long time, but I've not heard any recent complaints about the French bistro cuisine served there. From 5 to 6:45 p.m., they offer a 3-course "pre-theater" prix-fixe for $22.95.
