Holiday Steak: What should I bring?

  • 1

Forgive the wine & food paring newbie, but I thought y'all might help me decide which bottle(s) I should bring & serve at my mother's Giftmas celebration . We usually have a salad bar with homemade Roquefort dressing, New York Strip steak, baked potatoes with sour cream, butter & bacon, butter sauteed whole mushrooms, rolls and another side or two I'm not remembering at the moment. This is what I have in my wine closet:

Beforehand and with the salad:
2006 Handley Sauvignon Blanc: would it hold up to the cheese?
2006 Chalone Chardonnay
2007 Der Pollerhof Gruner Veltliner
2006 Gilgal Cotes du Rhone Blanc
2007 David Noyes Tocai Friulano
200(?) Kalinda Riesling Sekt Dry (from Pfaltz)

With the main course:
2005 Purisima Canyon Syrah
2005 Calaccedo Petite Sirah
2005 Chateau Maurac Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois
2005 Gilgal Cotes du Rhone Rouge
2007 Le Boris Jacou Gamay
2004 Chateau de Serame Minervois
2003 Palamon Cabernet Sauvignon
2003 Marc Cellers Reserve Syrah

My family drinks mostly white wine with occassional forays into reds, so I wanted to bring something that everyone would enjoy. (The Zin was planning on bringing my friend told me it'd probably be better for a different occassion as a 2nd or 3rd bottle)
Any and all help is always greatly appreicated. Thanks!

  1. I would personally go with the 200(?) Kalinda Riesling Sekt Dry (from Pfaltz) and the 2005 Calaccedo Petite Sirah but you really can't go wrong with the Cab Sauv.
