NE Philadelphia Brasilian

Planning on making a trip up to the NE to check out the Castor Ave scene. Have read about the growing Brasilian community and am excited to check this out for myself. Any good recs on restaurants, bakeries, markets, or anything else interesting? More interested in non-churasscaria places, but if there are standouts then I def have an open ear. Also... read that the NE Brasilian community is actually a spillover from Riverside, NJ. I will eventually make a trip out to the Seabras Market there. can anyone give me an idea of what I can expect on the other side of the river?

  1. For Brazilian in the NE, I really enjoy Picahana. Yes, it is a churasscaria place, but the food is delicous, service friendly, and prices very reasonable.

Although not Brazilian, I also recommenmd you explore a few of the Portuguese places in that area. A Taste of Potrugual and Cafe Tio Pepe are two stand outs. Tio Pepe is right on Castor, Taste of Portugual is only about 10 min from that area.

Although I have never been there, Picahana comes highly recommended by the people that I work with. Good food, and MUCH more reasonable than Chima or Fogo in the city.

Indeed, friends and I ate at Picanha a year or two ago for $30 per person - with a 25% tip. My Fogo experience ran $95 per person. Granted, the only trait these two restaurants share is the churrascaria/rodizio. But if you're looking to indulge a hardcore red meat craving, Picanha is worth the trip
