  1. Are you willing to travel outside of Stamford? This place exists in Wilton as the Schoolhouse.

Yes willing to travel if it is very superior clean and romantic. We usually never go to fancy restaurants but I want to for the holiday season. How many times have you been, is it place where you are still hungry when done because they only give you children portions deconstructed? What is good?

Nbermas, if you want to do a really nice night out for the holiday - i couldnt think of a better place than the schoolhouse.

It is a small restaurant in a former one room schoolhouse. The food & service are fantastic. It is, IMHO, one of - if not the - best restaurant in FFD County. The menu changes constantly according to what's in season. You'd have to call and find out what's on the menu this month as the website is outdated. The restaurant works hand in hand with Millstone Farm in Wilton wich provides to other local restaurants and grocers.

The menu is very small as well: 5 apps, 5 entrees, and 5 desserts.
Again, I really do not think you will be dissappointed. Please do report back if you go!

We are also big fans of the Schoolhouse. The food is excellent and the ambiance is charming.
Another place with excellent food is Harvest Supper in New Canaan. I've reviewed it here, so if you search for it you'll find detailed info.
I would not recommend the Dressing Room in Westport. I think the food is very mediocre and the service has been terrible all 3 times we tried it. To me it is all hype and no substance. There are also older threads here about it if you are interested in more info. Hope you find what you are looking for!

go to the schoolhouse. you'll be happy. get a glass of champagne while you look over the menu and enjoy.

      2. Personally for a great date (which it sounds like you're looking for) I would head down to Eclise in the harbor...yes undesirable area but my wife and I try to get there once a month or so.

There pastas are OK but the sauces are great. They have great specials on the weekend and make a very dirty martini!

Sticking with seafood I still do love Mitchell's regardless of what other might say. The Chilean sea bass is phenomenal and as long as you're not in the bar area (ask for the back left room) you should find yourself in a pleasant and quiet atmosphere.

Lastly you can try Che Jean Pierre on Summer St. although not as quiet as you might like it the french influence, great dishes and "friendly"/open atmosphere/attitude of the patrons and staff will definitely make you feel comfortable.

        1. You might consider Thomas [Henkelman]'s in Greenwich. Romantic, exceptionally clean and v good classic french food. Other favorites are Valbella in Riverside (a bit noisy, but ask for the wine cellar down stairs and you'll get tops on romance and quiet - though, bring a sweater). A final choice, a bit of a drive, is the Dressing Room in Westport. This is the late Paul Newman's restaurant. A great menu, with primarily local/organic foods, which varies daily based on market availability.

None are inexpensive, but you'll get what you pay for. Dressing Room is best QPR, IMHO.

While I realize all dining experiences are subjective - I can't recommend Thomas Henkelmann's, Valbella, or Dressing Room. Henkelmann's food is highly inconsistent and the service is rushed, uneven, and usually quite poor. Valbella is fine if you're Regis or someone of note that they love to cater to, but on several visits, I've found the food inedible, and the service is downright consistently awful. Dressing Room is my least favorite of the 3 - just not good at any turn. Unfortunately these places are high profile, but way underdeliver. Best meal by far in Greenwich is Rebecca's - very expensive and worth it. There really isn't anything else as it's peer.

          2. many good choices on the lists above and some jfood would disagree with, but romantic and quiet is subjective. If you are looking for an elegant romantic restaurant with good food jfood would add Bernards up in Rdigefield to the list.
