Richmond, VA Restaurant Suggestion Needed for a Mother in Law in Need of Some Pampering

My mother-in-law who lives outside Richmond, VA is in need of pampering so I want to give her a gift certificate to a nice restaurant (she is concerned about her retirement money, so she doesn't splurge on restaurant meals for herself). She loves good food and loves coming to visit me in San Francisco and go to all the latest hotspots, but I must admit I haven't been out to dinner anywhere in Richmond, since she always cooks for my husband and me when we go back there to visit. She is in her early 70s but is very young at heart. Any type of cuisine is OK as long as the restaurant is not too casual or overly stuffy and formal. Entrees around $20 would be fine.

Many thanks!

How much driving does she do? What part of town does she live in? Would she have qualms about going downtown, the Fan, etc.?

She drives around all the time. She lives in Midlothian, but goes to Richmond frequently. I am familiar with downtown and the Fan and neither of those places would be a problem. Thanks!

There is a new place in Midlothian, Meditteraneo, at the corner of Winterfield and Robious & we had a very good dinner there on Saturday night. Nice atmosphere, good food, good wine list. Other places I would consider are Azzurro, Chez Max (French....nice but not stuffy) and Six Burner (in the Fan).

These are great suggestions. After reviewing, my husband (who grew up in Midlothian) decided on Six Burner because he liked the idea of something in the Fan and we liked the menu and the look of the restaurant - so Six Burner it is! Many thanks.

We go there about once every ten days and really enjoy it. They also take reservations.
