Where To Find Venison

I was wondering if anybody knew where one might find venison in the LA area. I can usually only come across sausage, but would love me some filet o' venison over the next few weeks.

Quick update: Whole Foods in West LA has venison medallions in a small frozen meats counter, with turkey and duck. Haven't tried them though.

Usually, Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas. Also, I had a venison tartare at Drago Centro this weekend.

Not sure where you are but ABS Market and Deli in Long Beach (605 E Wardlow Rd 562 989-8109) has a terrific line of exotic meats from alligator to zebra (OK, maybe not zebra) and they're quite reasonably priced. They also make excellent sandwiches with their own hot pepper relish and garlic spread. It looks just like a corner liquor store, but don't be put off...it's a real find.

Surfas in Culver City also has venison, farm-raised and delicious, a bit on the expensive side though.

Thanks for the suggestions! My home base is the Silverlake / Echo Park area of Los Angeles, but I'm home in Mission Viejo for the holidays right now. Maybe I'll make a trip up to ABS for some provisions. Of course now I'm curious about what zebra meat would taste like...

It's not on the regular menu, but I have seen Venison on the special board before. (I didn't order it, but my friend did and really enjoyed it!)

I used to live like half a block away from that place. I'm really looking for meat to prepare myself, but I'll have to watch out for the venison next time I'm at Gingergrass. I like their Banana Leaf Fish.

Harmony Farms in La Crescenta has venison fillets, stew meat and sausage. They also have elk, alligator, buffalo, etc. All of it is frozen so buy at least one day ahead.
