Union Jacks in Ballston - AVOID IT
What a terrible place. Where do I start?
After a 20 minute wait, (including a false-start where they buzzed us over but then said 'oh, five more minutes), we sat down at our table and ordered a couple of the welsh rarebit appetizers.
This was, after the beer, the only decent thing we ate. Even it was pretty terrible. It tasted like they stuck a bit of Velveeta, Worcestershire sauce, beer, and milk together and nuked it. I'm almost absolutely certain it was made with Velveeta. Oh well, it still was pretty tasty.
I ordered the Shepard's pie, which came with a choice of sides. The waiter said 'macaroni and cheese' and I said 'ok!' What a mistake. Before I started eating my pie, i looked down at the hideous side dish - with the yellow cheese, and the long, straight noodles. I thought to myself "NO, it can't be, NO." and I tasted it. NO. I asked the waiter, who just happened to walk by:
"Is this Kraft macaroni and cheese?"
He replied, I'm not gonna lie to you. Its Kraft. It is boxed Kraft Mac n Cheese"
Wow. I was in disbelief. I took a bite of the "Shepard's pie" - a terrible mixture of mashed potatoes (surely boxed), peas and carrots (tasted canned), beef, and some sort of gravy that tasted exactly like the sauce in van camp's pork n beans. Then they covered it in cheese- looked to be monterrey jack and cheddar mixture.
Wow, and though I had complained about paying 12 dollars for a plate of crap and kraft macaroni and cheese, the waiter didnt see fit to charge us anything less than full price.
My friend's french dip was so bad he had to cover it in the welsh rarebit dip to eat it.
Avoid this place. Otherwise stick with the welsh rarebit.
