Roy's on Harbor Drive (San Diego)?

My birthday is coming up and I am looking for a slightly upscale place with good food. I've done lots of searching, but didn't find a whole lot about Roy's. The menu looks very good, I'm wondering what people's experiences have been. Also, does the new one on Harbor Drive have a view?

  1. Roy's at the Marriott on Harbor Drive in downtown is right on the edge of the water. I took a walk from seaport village all the way down to the convention center, and past by Roy's on the way. On the water right in front of Roy's is where a lot of boats are docked. From Roy's, there won't be much of a view at night.

    1. my husband and i are longtime fans of the la jolla/UTC roy's. the sizzling tartar or hamachi is one of our favorites.

i took my mom to the downtown location when she was in town and i was a little disappointed. although the people watching along the waterfront is great, the taste/preparation is not as good as the other location. great outdoor patio though.

      1. We have always had great meals and superior service at Roys in UTC area. We have not tried the HArbor one yet. I have been to many Roy's resteraunts and I have always been very happy with the service.

        1. This place took forever to open.

I would be interested to hear anyones experiences.

          Old Yacht Club location.

I have gone to both the UTC Roy's (many times) and the Harbor Roy's (once). The food was quite good at both locations. The only complaint I had with the location downtown is that it is part of the Manchester Grand Hyatt so there's quite the walk through the hotel to get to the restaurant which is on the other side of the pool. However, the service was great and the food was excellent. I say it's a winner! I love their lobster potstickers and crab cakes. The fish is extremely fresh at both locations. I'm also a huge fan of the chocolate lava cake. Oozing chocolate? Can you go wrong?

          2. I've been to the one on Harbor Drive a few times and had no complaints either time. Food and service were both excellent. I do agree that the view is lacking, you mostly just see the boats in the Marina. I'd recommend having a drink at the Top of the Hyatt before or after to check out their view of San Diego.

Oceancitygirrl, great suggestion! I agree 100%, that is one of the best views of San Diego.
