Fika Espresso Bar on Park Avenue South and 28th
Finally some good coffee in the neighborhood. It's a tiny, clean, well-lit space with a standing counter by the window and three two-top tables. They offer sandwiches and salads, as well as chocolate bonbons (dark chocolate, gingerbread, milk chocolate, etc.), cookies, muffins, tarts, and other items (I spotted some salty candy, trail mix, coconut tops, yogurt).
Prices aren't too bad $2 for a small coffee (on the smooth/bright/lighter side), $1 for a chocolate chip cookie (it was OK but not great).
Just wanted to give some love to this place. I get consistently good cappucinos there. The coffee (espresso) is rich, chocolaty, a bit nutty, with just the right amount of bitterness to it. Milk is always creamy, full of wonderful microbubbles. So far, it's my favorite spot to get coffee in Manhattan - good thing they are near my work. Highly recommended.
Oh, they also sell this thing called "chokladbollar", which is a ball of chocolate, oats, nuts, all slightly undercooked and rolled in coconut. They are delicious! I treat myself to one from time to time.
