Simple Cafe @ Queen E & Leslie
A cute little cafe just opened a few steps east of the beer store on Queen East. Popped in for a bowl of soup and sandwich at lunch. Very friendly staff. Sandwiches are $6 you get to choose your bread, meat and toppings. I had a ham and cheese on a baguette, soup was $5 (I think) for a nice bowl of sweet potato.. perfect for the cold weather...

Saw it from the streetcar the other night and I've been meaning to pop in. Do they also do coffee and desserts? What are their hours like?

They do have a dessert selection and a large shiny espresso machine.. I think the hours are 8am-7pm, open everyday, but I ma not sure if weekends have different hours.

I popped in recently to visit this cute cafe. I got to try red tea espresso (made from rooibos) for the first time as I am trying to stop drinking coffee. I tried a red tea latte. At first sip, I can smell fruit y notes which was a turn off since I was expecting a coffee aroma. Okay, it doesn't smell anything like coffee, but when I got past the foamy milk on top, I was really impressed. (The smell dissapearred after the first few sips too) It was very smooth and creamy and kind of thick (unlike tea). I think I found my coffee alternative! It really perked me up mentally even though there is no caffeine in it. I felt pretty good drinking it. I went back a second time to try an ice red tea latte and liked it as well. However, I think I like the hot version more. The ice version kind of reminded me of the the Hong Kong style ice milk tea. The HK version one is much better and cheaper. The hot version is really good too but has caffeine.

I just went there a few days ago with my girlfriend and thought the coffees were good but the cupcakes are bought elsewhere (i think Life is Sweet in the beach) and another dessert wasn't that great. Not sure if I would go back - would prefer Mercury or Red Rocket.
