General Tso's Chicken

My new husband is looking for amazing General Tso's Chicken... his criteria are: somewhat crispy, very flavorful and sightly hot (spicy)... Please help me make my husband happy... we live near Union Square (east 15th), any delivery place in the area would be amazing... but we would travel anywhere in the city for a small taste happiness...

So funny you recommended-i also love this place!

    2. According to Jennifer 8 Lee, the dish was invented at Shun Lee Palace. Can't hurt to start at the source.

Looked at Shun Lee Palace menu online and did not see it... does it have a different name? Thanks for your help...

It looks like I steered you wrong. It's been many, many years since I ate at Shun Lee, and it appears that General Tso's Chicken is no longer on the menu. (And that's not the only thing that's changed - those prices - gack!)

thanks for getting back to me on this...

      2. The General Tso's at Grand Sichuan 7th Avenue has a leg up over the others in that the sauce is not syrupy as at run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurants and comes out lighter in their frying process. You may want to ask for it extra spicy, though, as the times I've had it, it was pretty mild, although that might just be in comparison to the ma la dishes I ate.

        1. Chinatown Brasserie on Lafayette nr. Great Jones does an excellent job with this dish!
