Speaking of Five Points, I'm also a big fan of Hayes Barton Cafe. Save room for dessert, because their sweet stuff is absolutely worth the calories.
If you're a sushi fan, try Mura in North Hills. Great atmosphere - kind of a "see and be seen" place, but they have excellent sushi as well. Ask for the Screaming O roll - it's not on the menu and you will NOT be disappointed. I've not yet tried the new French place at North Hills, Coquette, but it's getting some really great reviews.

Lots of choices -
I highly recommend 18 Seaboard which is downtown near Peace College. Locally owned, American fare with a good southern twist.
For some good BBQ, also downtown, try The Pit. If you prefer good mexican, there is a good place for lunch downtown on Wilmington Street called Dos Taquitos. Very good - gets crowded at lunch.
For pizza, try Lily's in the Five Points neighborhood. Kind of weird atmosphere and service, but the pizza is to die for.
Hope these help.

Oh wow, where to begin.
As meatn3 said, Porters is really good, I recommend the fried green beans.518 is a good Italian restaurant. http://www.518west.com/
Mellow Mushroom has good pizza. http://www.mellowmushroom.com/
Waraji's and Sushi Blues are the two best sushi places in Raleigh. http://www.warajirestaurant.com/ http://www.sushibluescafe.com/
Bloomsbury Bistro is a restaurant with an ever changing menu always packed with goodies. http://www.bloomsburybistro.com/bistr...
They are all my favorite places to eat, and all I can think of right now.

re: Suzy Q
I'll third that. on the atmosphere. Waraji is great but if you'd prefer to be inside the Beltline, try Haru on Glenwood. I've had much better experiences sitting at the bar and doing omakase than sitting at a table but it's first rate either way.
And I'll also second 18 Seaboard. Probably my favorite in Raleigh. Their lunch menu is also very, very reasonably priced.

Are you driving? Any particular price range or area of town?
Porters has a very tasty shrimp and grits. They are located near NCSU.
