Hong Kong dining for those who don't read/speak Chinese

Just wanted to draw attention to a website recommended by Steve G about 3 years ago that includes a primer on reading Chinese menus:
http://www.inu.org/meiwah/

I also came across Benjamin Ross' website, How to Order Chinese Food, which has pdf files you can download and print that show pictures of dishes alongside their Chinese characters (and romanized names). I think this site may not be as useful in HK as in other parts of China and in overseas Chinese restaurants.

And the Hong Kong Tourism Board's website has an interactive dim sum guide that allows you to view pictures and descriptions of dishes you are interested in, then print out your selections with the photos and the names of the dishes written in Chinese to take to the restaurant with you.

    1. Please do share any other online guides that you are aware of here.

        1. One other thought. The website openrice.com.kh has an abundance of diners' reviews, photos, and other useful info (maps, hours, etc) on the local food scene in Hong Kong. The bad news is that it is almost all in Chinese.

The good new? Google does a halfway decent translation of the webpages. (Well, at least it seems halfway decent way to me, not knowing a word of Chinese; those fluent in both languages may have a different opinion. At least the rough google translation is better than nothing at all.) Let's say you are looking for "Tai Cheong" bakeshop. Type "tai cheong" into the google search box, then when google returns suggested webpages, choose one by clicking on "Translate this page."

            1. Thanks to Luther for reporting that openrice has an English-language version online.
