Where Can I Buy Duck Blood Cakes?

vliang Dec 10, 2008 10:05 AM

I want to find duck blood cakes or cubes used in Sichuan or Taiwwanese hot pots. A quick perusal of the fowl section in Ranch 99 yielded nothing. Any leads?
SF proper or Northern Peninsula preferred.

I'm not sure I would recognize a duck blood cake if I saw one, but Sunset Super is probably a good bet. On Irving between 25th and 26th.

Are you sure it was duck's blood you've eaten here? Because all of the blood I've seen in hot pots around here is pig's blood. In which case, Sunset Super and 99Ranch both have it. I haven't seen blood cakes from birds outside of Asia. If it was still legal to buy birds and kill them in your own home, you could make it.

Yeah, it was duck blood but it was in Taipei. So I guess we don't have it here?

I've not seen any, though admittedly I've not been looking for duck blood. Pork blood is readily available. If you really have your heart set on duck blood, maybe you could contact one of the duck farms in Petaluma to save you some.
