Seeking Sesame Cookie Recipe

szmeterling Dec 10, 2008 09:48 AM

When in Israel (Jerusalem) a couple of years ago, I got these thin, sweet, crunchy sesame seed cookies at a couple of different bakeries and they were perfect with unsweetened coffee.

I have tried to work out the recipe on my own (I was too stupid to think to ask them at the bakeries), and have tried a few - the closest I could find was Anna Olsen's Ginger Sesame Snaps http://www.foodtv.ca/recipes/recipede... , leaving out the ginger.

Close, but no cigar.

Can anybody help?

Funny you should post this today. I literally just tossed my recipe for these because my daughter was just diagnosed with a sesame allergy. The garbage man took it away about an hour ago. I'm pretty sure the recipe was from Bon Appetit or Gourmet so look on Epicurious. I'm pretty sure they are called benne wafers. Good luck!

Check out the benne wafer recipe in Nancy Baggett's All-American Cookie Book. Excellent!

Thank you both. I will check them out and let you know if it's the one.

I love the one in Medrich's Pure Dessert. Made with tahini. Addictive.
