The superior quality of Heritage meats has just been brought to my attention by a poster on the Home Cooking board.

The website is: http://www.heritagefoodsusa.com/

But the closest "market" that they show listed is in Houston. Does anyone know of any farms/markets locally - within an hour - hour and 1/2 drive - where these meats chould be purchased? I would like to give the beef and pork a try. Thanks!

One question....Are you looking for the holidays? If so you won't find many with any still available. Most people around here are going to have heritage turkeys....but try Localharvest.org to find farms close to you and call them to see if they have heritage breeds or know of anyone who does.

Another source but not local is the Slow Food Ark of Taste for anything from heritage meats to dying produce, grains and other items here in the US

You will have to look through each meat to find farm that are in Texas (i.e. Bison...Thunder Heart Bison in San Antonio)

That's great and thanks. There are 2 coops (D/FW Co-op Mall and Cross Timbers Food Cooperative) that I've e-mailed to see if they're still around - their last update info is a year or more ago.
