Victoria on NYE

Jigga Dec 8, 2008 07:54 AM

We're heading to Victoria for NYE to spend some time with some friends. I suspect that the night itself will be spent at some hole-in-the-wall pub, so I'd like to go out for a good early dinner beforehand. I'm looking for someplace with a hip sort of atmosphere with good wines and martinis, but also someplace with high quality local ingredients and delicious preparations. Any suggestions? If it helps, we're from Calgary and have enjoyed dining at Calgary places like Divino, Capo, Rush, Mercato, Brava Bistro ... so someplace like these restaurants is what we're looking for in Victoria. Thanks.

My own recs are Brasserie L'Ecole and Brio.

Hip and Victoria seldom go together (I feel I can say this as a life-long Victorian).

Having said that, my recommendations would be:

Stage Wine Bar (on Gladstone, in Fernwood (a fifteen minute walk from downtown).

Brasserie L'Ecole (reserve NOW if you're thinking about this, as they will book up quickly)

Niche (okay, not really 'hip,' but good food and close to town).
