so how is the Martha Stewart Dutch oven?

I received one as a gift and it seems like a nice adjunct to my trusty Le Creuset 7 1/4quart one as its a bit smaller. Seems heavy and sturdy. Will it hold up as well? Any heating ideosyncracies?

  1. I have one from her K-Mart line that is 4 or 5 quarts and performs just fine. I think I paid about $40 for it maybe 5 years ago. A year ago Cooks Illustrated rated larger ones and recommended the $40, 6.5 quart Tramontina at Walmart as a Best Buy. From time to time I have read about the enamel chipping on various brands but if you are careful and don't bang them around, just about any brand should do well. Knobs that are not safe at extra-high heat can either be wrapped in tin foil or replaced inexpensively with a metal or ceramic drawer pull knob from the home supply store.

    1. I also had one from K-Mart from about 6 years ago - had it til this year when the inside part got a chip and rusted a bit (small spot near the rim). Admittedly, I could have been more careful and it wouldn't have happened.
      I just bought a Le Creuset this yr- it is better, but not enough to garner the price, in my humble and cheap opinion.

      1. I have one from Macy's, it was labeled a chili pot, which I've used a few times now and like it just fine but have nothing to compare it to. It was worth every bit of the $45 I paid for it ($49.99 on sale and had a 10% off coupon)
