Cafe Aroma is open till 1 am, but it's more of a restaurant than a coffeehouse. And imho the food isn't very good and the service is lousy.
(BTW, although it does have a branch in Encino it's no relation to Aroma Coffee & Tea in Studio City, or the Cafe Aroma on Melrose, or the Aroma Cafe near the Westside Pavilion ... really need to have an embargo on using the word Aroma in any food establishments ...)

I embarked on a similar quest last year while working the night shift. Bottom line: I was sorely disappointed by the selection of late-night activities in the LA area. No all-night bookstores, movie theaters, pizza joints, etc. This was very disappointing for an ex-New Yorker. For entertainment there is a 24-hour bowling alley in Canoga Park and a 24-hour newstand in Sherman Oaks. That's about it.
As for coffee places, here's what I found.
- Bourgeois Pig in Hollywood. Open til 2a. Good vibe. Free wifi.
- Fred 62's in Los Feliz. Diner, not really a coffee house. No wifi, but good vibe.
- iBrowse cafe in Alhambra. Free wifi, decent coffee, open til 1a or 2a. Lots of college kids studying.Unfortunately Intelligentsia in Silver Lake is only open til 11. Also, there's always a Norms, Dennys, or IHOP within 15 mins of wherever you are that is open all night.
Good luck.

Except for chain diners and 7-11s, the 24/7 options in LA have definitely declined over the last twenty years. A big problem for coffeehouses is neighborhood opposition to late-night businesses. Insomnia had to move from Sherman Oaks because of complaints about parking and noise.
Fred 62 is definitely the best non-chain 24/7 diner in the area, but it isn't really a coffeehouse vibe. Damiano's Mr. Pizza is open till 6 am.
And of course, it's hard enough for independent bookstores that keep regular hours, never mind the additional overhead of a 24-hour operation. World News on Cahuenga is still 24-7, and both the Circus of Books are open till 2 am.

re: Das Ubergeek
Lulu's Beehive is open til 1 am Sunday through Wednesday, 2 am Thurs. through Saturday. They have live entertainment many nights which is cool unless you're studying or laptopping.
Psychobabble near Vermont and Franklin in Los Feliz is open till 2 am seven days ... good vibe except for sofas and armchairs that are masochistically uncomfortable even by coffeehouse standards.
I have always loved the Novel Cafe, but parking is difficult and the neighborhood gets seedy late at night after all the other places have closed. The Bourgeois Pig is fun but a bit loud; open till 2 am 7 days, but parking is impossible.
This is an old thread but a very thorough list ... you should probably call first to confirm these places are still open, there's a big turnover of these kinds of businesses and places that used to be open late are shutting down at earlier hours:
