Lunch In Chester?

Going to Chester tomorrow (Monday). I had my heart set on Sally Lunn's but they're going to be closed. Any recommendations from the Chowhounds? The friend I am with is usually open to anything. I am also pretty open, except that I'm not a sushi fan. It's a historical area, so I'm thinking if there are any pubs or inns that have an older kind of vibe, that would be great.

Heatherb, you may have a problem. Most Chester restaurants (and there aren't many!) I am familiar with are closed on Monday.

Your best bet might be to take a short trip to Long Valley and go to the Long Valley Pub and Brewery. The food is pretty decent and they have an excellent selection of beers.

Also check the Tri-State Region board. Many discussions about the Chester area are on that board.

Thanks! Yeah, I knew a Monday was not the ideal day, but it was the only time we could get up there.

Marilyn's Cafe is really good too. They are not fancy, but they are consistently good. They are in the shopping center across from Larison's. I also recommend the Brew Pub.

How is Marilyn's for breakfast, and
Do they still only take cash?

They're AWESOME for breakfast! We left the area in April, so I'm not sure about whether or not they still only take cash.

In her Table Hopping column in early November, Rosie Saferstein reported that Larison's Turkey Farm was going to be reopening as Larison's Steakhouse. You can check to see if that's happened yet.
