re: RGR
Completely off topic, but wasn't there a Platypus store in Loehmann's Plaza many years ago? I used to go there every Saturday to pick up two pieces of carrot cake and browse through their eclectic selection of goods.
I thought Platypus was dead and gone but recently discovered they still have a few stores, one of which is in the MarketFair on Route 1S near Princeton. Unfortunately, the store is vastly different from the one I remember.

re: ambrose
Yes you are right - Platypus was in Loehman's plaza up until about 15 years ago and the carrot cake was delicious as well as their coffee beans and many other speciality items. They still have a store today in Shrewsbury at the Grove on RT 35 North but it is not nearly as nice as the old store in EB, which is just a sign of the times I guess.

Thanks for jogging my memory. I had completely forgotten that I also used to buy coffee beans at Platypus.
I seem to recall that Platypus tried to expand into the NYC market but it didn't work out.
Boy, I sure could eat a piece of that carrot cake right now!
Tabachnik's gone, Platypus gone.....sigh.....

re: gudeatz
gudeatz, there was also another deli on Cedar Lane, The Gaiety. It was across the street from Butterflake Bakery. There was also a store on the cornor of Cedar Lane and ?, that we would go to on Saturday night. We would go there just for their ice cream. The ice cream was packed as per your order.
The good old days.

R - Here is a reference to the Tabachnik's in HP in a NYT article published in 1993.
