Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the New England

Min Ghung Glastonbury, CT = Awful Service

I had previously nothing but good things to say about Min Ghung, but I take it back. Had a meal there on Friday with a group of 6. 4 ate sushi/sashimi, 2 ate hot meals. The hot meals came out about 10 minutes before the rest of the food and the diners were done before everyone else even started. The sushi trickled out one plate at a time, with 5 minutes between serving each guest without an apology in sight. We had to repeatedly ask for a second beverage.

The sushi itself was good, except the veggie rolls (california rolls, cucumber, etc.) tasted like fish. They would probably be well served to use a second fish-free board for cutting. After this meal, I think I will stick to Chikurin in the area.

    1. yeah, we had a pretty bad service problem there a while ago and haven't been back since...too bad since the sushi, once we got it and once we got what we actually ordered was really good. I think they are probably better with the cooked food...

We've had a couple of really good experiences at the new sushi place in town - forget the name but next to Plan B. The sushi / sashimi was really good and the service was excellent (although we were sitting at the sushi bar) but sometimes even sitting at the sushi bar at Chikurin we get pretty inconsistent service...

        1. Sorry to hear that, as this place is one of my favorites. They do seem to hire a rather eclectic bunch of waitstaff (i.e. punk rockers to librarian types), which seems to be intended to fit the edgy feel. As a result, service - in the sense of placing fresh napkins on your lap - is not the focus. But it sounds like what you experienced was beyond acceptable.

But I still think this place offers a great alternative to the boiler plate sushi menu you get at all the formula japanese restaurants like Chikurin.
