Madison, WI -- Metcalfe's/Sentry Grocery Store is featuring local foods

  • 1

Hi all Madisonians,

Just wanted to give you a heads up that the Metcalfe's/Sentry Store at Hilldale has instituted a really great feature that promotes locally-produced foods -- they have signs for all foods produced within 150 miles of the store, all over the store, next to the foods themselves -- I got some excellent fingerling potatoes tonight, grown right outside Madison. Personally, I love the idea! I recently moved from Los Angeles to Madison, and I have say that I already liked this grocery store, but their moving in the direction of supporting locally produced foods put me over the edge into foodie heaven. No store I frequented in Los Angeles ever did this!

From what I understand, they upgraded their store with the idea that a gigantic Whole Foods would be moving in next door, but even though the Whole Foods expansion has been put on hold, the Sentry store keeps on improving. In these difficult economic times, I think it important to support businesses that are doing good things, and that's why I posted. That, and because I think I'm in love with a grocery store ;-).

    1. Speaking of local food, have you been to the Westside Community Market? It's basically a block away from Hilldale.

We just moved out of Madison this spring so I missed it this past fall and summer, but I liked it better than the one on the square.
