Berkshires (Lenox area) over Xmas?

I will be going to the Berkshires - staying at my grandparents place in Lenox over xmas. I've always gone during the summer but never have been during the winter.

I'm wondering what restaurants are open. My wife and me are both huge foodies.

I'm also wondering if the market Guido's is open around that time of year.

Any help would be great!

  1. Virtually every restaurant and store should be open; this is a year around living area. The only things that are seasonal are the drive-ins and farmers stands and markets.

Any suggestions? I'm open to all types of food. I'm looking to have a nice dinner with my in-laws (also open-minded about food.)

A couple of restaurants have closed for the season(church Street Cafe is one), a few others (Cafe Lucia, Barroods) usually close Jan through May.
On the more expensive side, I'd reccomend Lucia's or Prime; more reasonably priced I'd go with Frankie's, Dish, or the Village Inn (my personal favorite). The Heritage Tavern is a low-end local favorite for lunch, great hamburgers. The Gateways and Zinc are places to avoid. Halpins is a new sports bar on the motel strip with great corned beef and hot wings
for another lunch option. Have a great time and report back!

While not actually in Lenox, my top three are only a short car ride away.
          1. John Andrews -- Egremont (some complaints on this board about service but food is wonderful).
          2. Chez Nous -- Lee
          3. Brix -- Pittsfield

      2. Both Guido's --- Pittsfield (near Lenox line) and Great Barrington--- are open all year round.

Several folks told me that Guido's in Great Barrington may close.
Have you heard anything about this?
I agree with chowmensch about John Andrews,Chez Nous and I would add Rouge in West Stockbridge to that list.
I didn't have time to try Brix but from what I heard from others who I was eating with this surely belongs on any choice list as well.

Huh? I haven't heard anything like that. Maybe some people worry about competition with the new Big Y just about next door. However, I also heard a rumor that Spanish restaurant Viva had closed, and when I drove by the other day, there was the big flag OPEN flying bravely right in front. So lots of rumors fly around, but in the long run --- they don't always fly :-)
