Fresh Ricotta Cheese in NW CT or Western MA

patriciaghubbard Dec 4, 2008 10:47 AM

Does anyone know where I can buy fresh ricotta cheese in Litchfield County or Western Ma?
I used to be able to buy it on occasion from a farm stand near Litchfield, but they are closed.
My husband wants some for Christmas.

If you're up to it, it's actually not too hard to make and doesn't take much time. Cheesemaking.com sells kits -- you can buy online or I've seen them at Whole Foods in Hadley, MA, and at the hardware store in Ashfield, MA. I made it myself and it was quite tasty, you just need to use good, whole milk. Takes about half an hour.

Not sure about that area exactly. The best fresh ricotta can be found at Liuzzi's in North Haven.

I've gotten fresh at the Troy Farmer's market on Saturdays, but that would be a ways for you. You can probably consider trying Old Chatham Sheepherders' at markets in western MA--it's quite good.
