I've been searching for a couple of egg coddlers, but usual suspects (Arthur Quentin and Les Touilleurs) don't seem to stock any (good news though, I kind of find both places ridiculously overpriced). Has anyone come across these quaint little things anywhere in the transport accessible areas? I am guessing garage sales might be a good bet, but I would prefer a more convenient resource.

Don't know if this helps find anything local, but try: http://www.egg-coddlers.com/where-to-buy.shtml

Ebay is probably your best bet. I have some, but as they're often used, they're not for sale. Sorry!

Thanks for the ebay suggestion, there are a few Canadian auctions and the prices are fair. I'll try my chances and if I don't win a bid I'll do a local coddler hunt and report my findings.

I just thought of another place to seek them: Quincaillerie Hogg, that hardware store that is no longer a hardware store. They do have a lot of British stuff, non?

They do have a lot of British stuff (I'm from the UK myself) but it's mainly in the edibles department - I'm not sure they have British cookware. I can take a look, though, as it's just around the corner from where I live.

Thanks again for the ebay suggestion. I was able to get a pair of vintage coddlers (circa 1975) for 15 bucks, and that included shipping. I think this was the fraction of the cost of a single coddler from a fancy speciality store in town, if they ever existed. I think the best alternative would have been estate sales, but alas I don't have time or wheels to go to those. I am counting down to my Sunday breakfast now.

Nice! Glad you found something. Funny you mention estate sales, we had some coddlers at an estate sale I helped my husband with earlier this spring, but I think they got sold, cause I'd looked around in our boxes of leftovers when you first posted, but didn't see them there. I love coddled eggs too - enjoy.

Try La Soupiere, on Ste Catherine. There'a always that other kitchenwares store on Drummond at de Maisonneuve (I always forget the name), although they tend to be overpriced as well. Not sure if either of them will have it, but they're probably better bets.
