Best New non-European Restaurants, Ideally in Midtown Area

In your opinion, what are the best new non-European or American restaurants that have opened up in midtown in the past year? I have been away from the city and not had the chance to dine, there. My preference is for anything that is not central or western European, although Greek or Turkish or Russian would be fine. I like all Asian, Carribean, South American and African cuisines.

I will be staying at the W in midwtown, so anything in that vicinity would be preferable. However, I would be willing to travel for the right restaurant.

Thank you very much in advance.

Chandler, Soba Totto opened in Dec. 2007, I believe. It's part of the Totto mini empire in NYC (including Yakitori Totto and Aburiya Kinnosuke) and located across from Yasuda.

I'm having trouble thinking of other new places! I've heard of 'secret' meals served in homes, but don't know details.

Plenty of options for you that aren't that new....

Thank you very much, cimui. You are always so helpful. I have made a reservation at Soba Totto and a few of our old favorites. My wife and I have eaten at Aburiya before and we liked it very much.

We are also going to try for reservations at Momofuku Ko, but I think we will need luck for that.
