Food at the Stafford Hotel, London

We will be in London for Christmas, staying at the Stafford Hotel. We're considering having Christmas Lunch at the Stafford but it's rather expensive. Can anyone comment on the quality of the food at the Stafford? We've never been there. Any other suggestions about places to have Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day dinner? We've heard that the only option will be hotel restaurants because everything else will be closed.

I don't think it's 100% true that no restaurants are open on Christmas Day. That said, they are rare and one has to search around to find a decent offering. There are lists to be found by Googling 'Christmas Dinner London.'

As of a few years ago, the Stafford's restaurant was highly rated on London-Eating.com. That may have changed a lot, so I hope someone here has a more recent review.

Hi Eat707. I have stayed at The Stafford recently and loved it. Very charming, very English hotel with a great atmosphere and the best service I've had in London for a long time. The food was consistently excellent and interesting. Both the restaurant and bar were great. I've just looked at their Christmas sample menu and it looks gorgeous. I don't think it is overpriced for the quality of the hotel. Everywhere is expensive on Christmas Day in London and very few quality places are even open. I think you will have a great time, actually if I was going to spend christmas in London, this would be my pick of spots to be. Enjoy the holidays!

Very helpful replies! Thank you so much. We're sticking with the Stafford and are looking forward to it. It really does sound fabulous.
