There's another one on McDowell around 28th Street or so.

I'm assuming this is it...

Yeah, I think that must be the one.

Bummer about them not being open to the public--when I first saw it I stoked to have a potential source of gear so close to the house.

Oh well.

It's a national chain called the Restaurant Depot. It is true that it is not open to the public however all you need to get in is a sales tax license which you can obtain from the Arizona Department of Revenue if you are so inclined. They do have some very good prices on food and some is in small enough packaging to be home friendly. The pricing and selection on restaurant equipment is very good but keep in mind commercial equipment varies significantly from home equipment in many ways and may not always be the best choice.

The old Costco (original Phoenix Priceclub)which is at 35th and Indian School, right next to the latest Ranch Market is the "small business" Costco and has lots of restaurant supplies.Smart and Final does also but I think Costco is more reasonably priced.

Smart & Final stores are mainly food focused, but have some kitchen gear.

The Container Store isn't food or restuarant focused, but does have a kitchen section and has all sorts of different (and many cool) storage products. They just opened their first AZ location at 18550 North Scottsdale Road (near Mayo/101).

That's a good call. I've been to the Container Store in Dallas many times and they have a good selection of such containers, although they are a bit pricey. Check their website.
