Wow, just ate, by chance at Scampo at the Liberty Hotel in Boston. One of Lydia Shire's new places and it is outstanding. Presentation perfect, flavors burst, service first class but not snooty) try anything on the menu, we shared several items and just thoroughly enjoyed the 'experience.' Draws locals from Beacon Hill and MGH medical community. Thankfully, not trendy or touristy. Truly fabulous and, yes, worth the drive, at least from Concord, NH.

Good escape. Perfect location... for easy on/off to I93.

Nice article stating the same in this month's Gourmet.

I found the food to be technically well-prepared, but somehow unsatisfying. Do want to try a couple more things, though.

I like it a lot, too, but as several friends (and at least one professional reviewer) have noted, the food can be inconsistent, as in not so great if Lydia isn't on the premises. I've had pretty good luck there, think the breads are especially nice, and really like the bartending.

I've been to Scampo several times and find it to be just OK. I have one friend that really likes it there, so I go with her but quite frankly, I don't go out of my way to go any other time and I'm just a short cab ride away. I have always eaten at the bar and found the service to be pretty good on most occasions, the atmostphere very lively, but the food just doesn't draw me there.
