Ansonia,CT: John J. Sullivan's

This is going to be a quick review, but I wanted to get it written and posted.
Name: John J. Sullivan's
location: 557 Wakelee Ave Ansonia, CT 06401
Appearance: The restaurant used to be Rapp's Paradise, but is now John J. Sullivan's. They have updated the restaurant and from afar it looks nice. Upon closer review there are many flaws. When you walk into the front entrance you are greeted by a round table with a frayed and HIGHLY stained table cloth with a vase of flowers. Parts of the building were painted, while others had that old Rapp's feel. Attention to detail is the first thing I notice.
At the table: I was VERY disappointed! Much of the flatware, silverware, and glassware was dirty! I am not talking water stains, but rather dried on food and grit. I absolutely refused to use several glass and plates before a good polish. If it wasn't for the family gathering there, I would have walked out. I do not understand how you can set a table with obviously dirty wares.
Food: The first plate out was the salad. While it may have been edible, there was no way I was going to eat it. My salad had brown greens, wilted edges, and rotted leaves!!! It was a HUGE turn off to the entire meal. I don't care how much business you have and how much lettuce you must waste, a restaurant should NOT be allowed to serve what we were served!
For my dinner I had the strip steak. It was cooked to the right temperature, but it seemed to be drowning in butter. I am not sure if the butter was added or it was from the vegetables that came with the steak. The veggies were either pre-made and reheated or from a large batch that they had made. They were soaked in butter and inedible. There was not much good about the food here.
Conclusion: I would highly suggest staying away from John J. Sullivan's even if you are pulling off of route 8 and looking for a close location to the highway. The food was poor, the taste lacking and the lack of attention to details and cleanliness put the seal of disapproval on this one.
Thanks FoodGuy for the review. Unfortunately hubby has his Chirstmas party there in a few weeks.
We have driven past this and have thought of stopping for dinner. Tough to find good food in the valley.
We have been to Rapp's in the past for numerous weddings, etc. Food was ok. I will post on the Christmas party food. Hopefully a better experience. The dirty tableware really freaks me out.
