Don't bother with the Betty Boop salsa. Thin and bland. Not worth the .99. Paul Newman is much better. (Sort of surreal to think of them having a battle of the salsa.)

Not chow, but Oakland GO once again has Xmas trees at great prices: $34.99 for noble firs (any size) and $26.99 for sheared Douglas firs. The noble firs in particular are a great deal, as they usually start over $40 for small ones.

Otherwise, slim-ish pickings: no yogurt, no premium butter. Except, if you haven't don't your holiday baking, or just want to stock up, the Hershey's chips (semi-sweet, Reese's peanut butter, Special Dark) are 2/$1.

Slim-ish pickings indeed. For people who don't mind HFCS, There's one quart Crystal Springs egg nog for $1.49. There was also some refrigerated bluberry pommegranite 100% juice from Tropicana, i think, for $1.99

It comes and goes, but there is a quart of non fat half and half (who knows how that happens) for $1.49. I mention it because I saw the same thing at Raley's on sale for nearly $4.

San Pablo had a special for Nature Valley Peanut butter bars (3 for $1). Expiration April 09. They are a hard bar and the peanut butter taste is good. Certainly worth 16 cents per package (two packages per box)

De Cecco three color (red, green, white) penne is 99 cents for 16 oz ... woo-hoo ... someone who is actually selling a pound of something instead of 14 of 15 oz. Anyway, it might make for a nice Christmas pasta salad.

The Hunts organic diced tomatoes are now available plain (2 for $1)

There seemed to be lots of frozen fish at good prices ... $2.99 package ... stuff like Wild Alaskan pollock, salmon, ahi tuna ... some of it plain some of it flavored (bbq sauce, etc). Didn't take a close look at it though.

Hayward GO - Location: Off San Mateo Bridge, Jackson, Rt on W. Harder Rd.

This time I got a few things:

Mom's best quick oatmeal $2.49 x 2
El Torito salad dressing .99c
Campbell's golden mushroom .79c - One friend said it's hard to find. I'm going to try it.
Snow's minced clams in a can 6.5 oz for .99c
Deep Cove sardine in spring water .59 x 4. Hubby tried a can & said it was awful & tasted like sawdust. So skip it.
2-pk dryer balls - supposedly it's $5.99 at other places marked down to $2.99. Tried them out. Very noisy in the dryer, not sure if it's better.

They have Butter Toffee Popcorn Candy Corn in a tub 20 oz - I think they are $2, got some from a friend last time but saw a pile in the candy aisle this time.

Subtotal $13.10 + .26 tax = $13.36

Credit cards taken.

I saw the Mallomars at the Berkeley store too. That $2.29 price is good. Raley's was selling them for close to $5.

Yeah. That's what I was thinking. I focused on the really bad option and didn't buy them. There was only one package left a few weeks ago and I haven't seen them since. Maybe they were great. Maybe that's why they went quickly. Maybe I should have bought them. HFCS and all, is there such a think as a bad Oreo? Too late.
