Low-Key festive b-day in SF - cozy and comfortable

bladerobbins Dec 1, 2008 08:11 AM

Looking for suggestions for a restaurant for a low-key but festive birthday dinner this Wednesday. Given the current economy, we're going to save our fancy meal for a trip back to NY over New Year's, but we'd still like something fun.

Most important element is atmosphere - something cozy and comfortable but still bustling and convivial feeling. We like almost every cuisine, although for the purposes of this dinner preferably not Italian or old school French. There is flexibility as far as neighborhood, although within walking distance of Dolores Park is a definite perk. Price - really don't want more than $20/entree.

Thanks in advance!

You might try Lolo's which is definitely within walking distance of Dolores Park. The atmosphere is on the funky side but you would certainly be able to settle in and be comfortable. The mixture of Mexican-Turkish Fusion food is quite good and moderately priced.

Might push the $20 cap a bit but Firefly would be a good choice if cozy and low-key are top priorities. If you can do $35/person they do a really wonderful little prix fixe.
