They are absolutely worth it! If you look around, food tours are usually between $35-$60 and not only you get a guided tour of the place you visit but for that price you also get to taste about 5-6 different types of food. A total bargain, food for thought =)

scott's pizza tour is beyond wonderful
he is the bomb, my teenagers loved it
well worth it either a walking tour or a bus tour

How did this thread get revived after 2 years? Anyway, how about RGR's lower east side food tour. You don't even have to pay anyone (except the places you eat).

I appreciate the mention of my self-guided tour, snaporaz. Two updates: Guss' Pickles has closed, so substitute The Pickle Guys, on Essex St. And the correct address for Economy Candy is 108 Rivington St. (not 145).

I was given a gift certificate for Foods of New York, Inc.. has anyone ever tried this company? I'm not very excited about it. It looks great for visitors but not for a local.
