New Year's Eve Saratoga Springs/Malta - need recs

financialdistrictresident Nov 30, 2008 07:09 AM

This year we will be spending New Year's Eve Upstate. Do restaurants typically have a special New Year's Eve menu with a set price or just the regular menu? I'm thinking Bloomer's, etc. Would appreciate your suggestions. I hope it's not too late to book. . . thanks in advance. fdr

Bloomer's sounds great to me. Have you tried them since the new chef arrived? They are better than ever.
I would avoid dining downtown, since it's packed with people for First Night.

jaylhorner, didn't know Bloomer's had a new chef. . . Do you know where Mark Lawrence went? Thanks for the tip on avoiding downtown.

Thanks, jaylhorner. We are also looking at The Inn at Erlowest . . .

Dale Miller at The Inn at Erlowest is great! They are doing a few overnight packages there.

I was at Chez Sophie over the weekend for brunch and was pleasantly surprised (considering the meal I had last year there was a bit of a miss). I had the farro soup that was very well prepared with bacon and a shoulder steak with valdeon cheese (a bargain at $13 for a generous portion -- only ended up eating half of my meal), asparagus and roasted potatoes.

Thanks Miss Needle. I still have not been to Chez Sophie. Not sure we want to get caught up in the First Night crowds.

We have had a good experience on NYEve at the Lakeridge in Round Lake, a favorite anyways.....

Thanks, jspear. We will check it out. Had dinner the other weekend at Good Times (it was late, location was close). Charming place, been around 30 years, so sad the food's nothing special since they are right on the lake.

It is really nothing special, I think owned or used to be owned by OBI folks, never understood the mediocrity.....

Bloomer's New Year's Eve prix fix menu will be available next week. They will email it to me then.
