I am guessing the lines were for Darkness. Someone posted over at beeradvocate that they will no longer be able to have such days as they have become too big. I've only had the Furious IPA which I really enjoyed.

From Surly website:

A Farewell to Growlers
Nov 17, 2008

Per MN State Law (340A.301), Surly Brewing will not be able to get a license to sell growlers in 2009. In 2008, we have sold over 3500 barrels of beer. The cut-off limit for getting that off-sale license is 3500 barrels. So, no more growlers, no more Darkness Day, and no more SurlyFest.
Here is the plan for wrapping up growler sales in 2008. The last week of December we will be selling growlers of a new beer we brewed specifically for this farewell to growlers. The beer is a DIPA double IPA. We do not have enough growlers left for you to purchase, so we came up with a new idea.
Bring in your empty growler and we will clean it and then fill your growler directly from the brite beer tank in the back. We will be selling these growlers for $17 each and here are the hours we will be filling:

December 27th Saturday noon-4:00
December 29th Monday 10:00-6:00
December 30th Tuesay 10:00-6:00
December 31st Wednsday 10:00-4:00
We have brewed 30 bbls of this beer. If we run out, we will not have any more to sell.

-All growlers must be returned by December 31st if you wish to get your $3 deposit back.

That's the price of fame. Surly is a great local brewery. I've had several of their beers. Surly Furious is my favorite but then again, I haven't had a Surly that I didn't enjoy

surly darkness is worth standing in the sleet for three days and three nights. it's the best they do, it's coming out now, and it will be here like the barest shimmer of paradise, then gone, gone, gone for another year

darkness is one of the better things on earth, and it's transient. if you see it, buy it. and to warn you, it's a bit strong-- arrange transportation afterward, etc.

common, year round surlys include furious, bender, cynicAle, bitterbrewer, & others. i love furious and bitterbrewer the best, dh prefers bender. there is also a coffee bender, which isn't easy to find, but it is tasty. i tried this year's surly octoberfest and actually didn't love it as much as i expected. despite my usual cheerleading for the brewery, i can't really wave my pom-poms for it-- good beer, but not at normal surly level. if you haven't had a surly yet, i suggest starting with a pint of furious: it's sessionable, it's a great introduction to the brewery, and it is commonly available (bar list available thru surly website). if you are buying beer in the store, look for the surly brewery cans (pint)-- they are very fresh, the beer is unpasteurized, so the cans are kept refrigerated the whole time until you buy them. but please *do* pour it into a glass before enjoying, and smell it. cheers.

Actually, the Bitterbrewer was a one time release, and not a year-round beer. Sad, but true.
