My first cruise stops in Key West on Friday... Help?

Please help my wife and me find a good place for lunch and some cocktails while the ship is in port.

  1. What are you looking for? There are hundreds of possibilities. Do you want to be on the water, in a dive, fine food, on the beach?

      Ok, then.
I have no idea what to expect. I guess it should just be a nice setting that is so not our usual surroundings in NYC. We don't mind spending a little money. A beach view in a clean place would probably be ideal.

Thanks! Do you know if there is a beach we could go to at Latitudes? It would be great to do both with one excursion.

    2. Lattitudes is very nice, you need a reservation to take the launch to the island. Alonzo's at A&B Lobster house and Turtle Kraal's are good for lunch close to the cruise ships.

      1. You could go to Dante's a restaraunt/bar casual food, it has a pool in the center of the restaraunt, not far from the port. Or cab to Salute', a casual restaraunt on the beach, a favorite of ours and we live close to KW. Wear your swim suit under your shorts, eat/drink at Salute' and enjoy the beach. There is also a place at the end of Duval (Atlantic side, other end of where the ships dock, that has a bar/casual food/beach chairs/limited beach). Enjoy your time here, it's a great place. mary

I think the place marycarol is taiking about is the Southernmost Beach Cafe. We enjoyed the atmosphere. Food was bar food. Interesting twist on the calamari with rings of pepperocini. You can rent beach chairs. Or Louie's Backyard. we were there last week and the wind on the Northern side was pretty chilly.

Southernmost Cafe would be a great choice if you are looking to use a beach afterwards but you should know KW is not a beach type of town. The beaches are small, rocky (you will need shoes) and not natural. You probably have better beach destinations during your Cruise. If you are only in for a short time I would skip lunch and spend some time exploring KW. Take the Trolley, see the Lighthouse, tour the Hemingway Estate, go to Mel Fishers Museum, wander the streets and enjoy the views.........there is just so much to do.
