Restaurant in or around Rockland, MA

My brother and his wife have a favorite restaurant somewhere in or near Rockland. I'd like to give them a gift certificate but can't remember the name. The restaurant looks like a big white house and is broken up into small rooms, colonial in style and fairly traditional American food. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks for any help.

  1. The only restaurant I can think of in Rockland that would be close to your description is Bella's, but it's more Italian and isn't really colonial in style:

Are you thinking of the Scarlet Oak Tavern in Hingham?

    1. Lilypad,

It sounds to me that you you are talking about Strawberry Fair in Norwell. (just west of Rockland) http://www.thestrawberryfair.com/

No I think its the old Whiton House which hiddenboston mentioned its new incarnation...

Possible, and a few years ago, I would have said probable. However, the "near Rockland" description would indicate Strawberry Fair. Even though they ar only a few hundred feet apart, both in Queen Anne's Corner, Hingham is Hingham, not to be confused with Rockland. I have not tried the Scarlet Oak Tavern yet and it is not high on my list as I look at the prices. I used to love the Whiton House and its ghosts and before that the Country Fare. Either place would be a good choice with Strawberry Fair being the cheaper and much more casual of the two.

Scarlet Oak looks like a big white house from the outside, though the inside no longer has small rooms as it did in its previous incarnations as Siros, Blackfin etc.

Strawberry Fair looks like a small yellow cottage. the interior does have smaller dining sections/rooms.

In my opinion, if someone is not from the area they may consider Scarlet Oak as being close to Rockland.

        2. Thanks everyone for helping out. I think Trumpetguy nailed it. That sounds very familiar. Is it actually in Rockland?
          Thanks again.
