where to buy GOOD produce at decent prices around white plains??

unocal Nov 26, 2008 02:11 PM

hi i'm just curious if there are any places, especially farms, where i can pick up good (and preferably organic) eggs and such at non whole foods prices around white plains? ive been on a squash kick recently, and i'm hoping there are some spots where i can buy directly from the grower/breeder. i go to trader joe's, and stop & shop has decent stuff as well sometimes, but i'm just wondering if i'm missing something...thanks in advance!

It's kind of hitting the end of the season for farmer's markets, but you might want to keep in mind for next year:

A couple of the mostly-apple stands around exit 8 of Rte 684 might have winter vegetables, but I don't know this for a fact.

Stone Barns has eggs all year at the Blue Hill Cafe.

Greenwich Farm market is still open on Saturdays and I think Rye's is too.

But I must say is you want to buy local and organic it costs. Just a simple fact. BUT I think it is well worth the cost.

i'm just curious as to how much the eggs are at these aforesaid places. when i was up in maine, a dozen of eggs was about $3.25 from the local farms, and i still think that's too much, at least for my budget. i have to get used to being back in westchester unfortunately...it is worth it though, i agree, as well as helping to keep these farms afloat.
