Magical, Unique Places, Worth a Drive?

Looking for a good place to go out tonight, in the rain... somewhere that feels a little special and unique.

I'm in Hollywood, and want to get out of town a bit. Places like Neptune's Net, the Edendale Grill (if it wasn't so close), Axe in Venice... anyone with any good ideas?

I haven't been in 25 years, so I'm curious what others think about Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon. It used to be one of the most romantic of L.A. restaurants.

agree completely -- wonderful setting, fun anticipation getting there and finding it.
best advice: pack a picnic, go there, get a table, order a glass of water, enjoy the babbling brook, scope out the place, leave a gratuity, and find a place just off of the grounds to spread a blanket and enjoy your picnic. Inn of the Seventh Ray does indeed have a magical locale and nice vibe, then they ruin it with way high prices, mediocre food, meandering service, and did i mention the boring food at ridiculous prices?
