Both Summerhill Market and All the Best Fine Foods have posted their holiday menus, which are fairly similar. I did not get a chance to sample their Thanksgiving offerings. For those that did, can you please offer insight as to what you would recommend?

I just brought Summerhill Market's turkey dinner to celebrate U.S. Thankgiving with some relatives from the States who just moved to Ottawa. There were four adults and two children, and I decided to order for 6, just in case (even though they told me in advance that the portions are generous and designed to give you leftovers). We were all *really* impressed with all of the dishes. The turkey was simple and perfect -- the white meat was a tiny bit dry, but I think I had it in the oven too long, and gravy cures all ills. The mashed potatoes were creamy and decadent (needed a dash of salt, but once again, the gravy took care of that). The green beans surprised us by being crisp and green, despite being cooked ahead of time and reheated. I didn't try the squash, but reports were very positive. The clear winner, though, was the stuffing. It is a very traditional sage stuffing with a bare hint of sweetness from some diced apple. It was moist and full of flavour. I ate 3 huge servings of it. :) The cranberry sauce was excellent -- I didn't catch much orange flavour, but I actually don't like orange with my cranberry, so it was perfect for me. The gravy was the weakest link and needed a bit of help to get it to my preference -- I just added a bit of soy sauce and black pepper and the juices from the warmed turkey pan, and it was fine.

The serving portions are incredibly generous -- I was rather shocked when I opened the containers. There was easily enough food for 10 - 12 adults. We all ate ravenously and barely put a dent in the dishes. 5 of us has leftovers for lunch today and there was still a ton of food leftover.

For the price and the quality of the food, I must admit to being tempted to order from them again for Christmas at home in Toronto. It really was "home cooking" in the best sense of the term. It also doesn't hurt that the service is always so friendly and helpful there.
