A pleasant surprise at Cafe des Artistes

Four of us had dinner at Cafe des Artistes in Hollywood this past Sunday, and were pleasantly surprised how nice a time we had. Certainly this is not haute cuisine, but rather a cozy, warm place which executes French comfort food/bistro food very well. They make good drinks, the table service was very casual but knowledgeable and professional, and the food surprisingly good. This is definitly a notch up from their sister restaurant Mimosa, and infinitlely more comfortable than either of the two heavily hyped French bistros-du-jour, Anisette or Comme Ca! If you're looking for a cozy place with good service, and pleasant French comfort food, this is it!

Just curious, how was the noise level? And what was your favorite dish?

It was quiet...but remember it was Sunday night, definitely an off night. We had the sweetest French speaking young lady as our server...name Skye, and the bartender made the best drinks ever (and I am a great bartender myself...imho). The beet salad was delicious, the chicken breast over a bed of tasty veggies was very good bistro food, and we enjoyed a floating island and a chocolate mousse both of which were excellent. The bartender comped us with glasses of sauterne which were a nice touch. This is not a great restaurant...but it absolutely was perfect for a quiet Sunday when we wanted well prepared simple comfort food in a pleasant environment. We will definitely return, and would recommend it for a comfortable simple meal if you are in the area.

I get there every few months or so. I always have good food and service. I love it.

My sister is looking at restaurants for her wedding next year. I have never been to Cafe des Artistes but had heard good things and included it in my list of places to consider.

What do you think about this place for a wedding?

I have always loved Cafe Des Artistes, I have been going since the house was white, before the last remodel. I always have good food and the atmosphere is v romantic. For some reason it doesn't occur to me very often, but it should.
