Later Evening Casual meal in Calgary

I will be travelling to Calgary next week on business and will be arriving at the airport around 9 pm. I feel like something simple and casual. Perhaps a steak sandwich and a beer, similar to what I would get at Sawmills in Edmonton. Any recommendations for somewhere between the airport and downtown that won't be trying to shuffle me out so that they can close at 10. A nice pub like Henry's at the Sheraton Cavalier would be fine.

Which day do you get in? Hours can vary drastically depending on the day (Monday vs Thursday for example)...

JM, I am guessing that you also like Henry's? I used to live in Calgary for about 7 years but have not kept up with the restaurant scene over the past few years, so I usually fall back back on my old favorites like Caesars and Da Guido when I need a full meal. Just thought I would check to see if there were any new recommendations. Thanks for confirming that Henry's is still good. Do they have their own kitchen or does their food come from Craver's which would make it a fine choice for a steak?

jc- I was under the impression that you were referring to another Sheraton's pub and was just letting you know that it exists here too! Sorry for the misunderstanding!

How about Boccavino? It's on Centre St N right next to LIna's so location is perfect for you- www.boccavino.com

Not a problem. I am quite familiar with Henry's from several years ago having spent many long evenings there, but I wasn't sure whether it had changed over the years. Boccavino looks interesting - sounds a little like Mercado on 4th St. wit hthe market and upscale Italian food. Does it stay open open late?

Mercato is VERY expensive- Boccavino is much cheaper, more of an Italian social club (lots of soccer on the screens, like Nicastro's). Unfortunately I have no idea what its hours are but SUSPECT they're open fairly late.

Good recommendation on Boccavino John. I've been a regular of Lina's for a while now, but never thought to check out the place next door. And it was great - it was busy (which always bodes well for a place), but there was still a lone vacant table for us. It had a relaxed (yet clean) pub atmosphere, efficient service, cold beer, and a great balance between by husband's need for Wed wings and my need for a decent, slightly healthy meal. I think that this will be a regular Wed spot for us.

I'm recommending it without ever having actually eaten there!

You should check it out. Not anything spectacular, but a much better "pub experience" than I usually get for Wings Wed. (Although I do love the pizza at 1410, which I believe you also recommended!)
