Any recommendations for great homemade soup in Bergen County? Thanks!

  1. Are we looking for a dine-in place....or take home? A little insight into your preferences would also help in your query.

There are a few good Kosher delicatessens like Sol n' Sol, Foster Village or Kosher Nosh which have a variety of soups.

For Chinese, Petite Soo Chow makes an excellent Hot and Sour soup

For Japanese Noodle Bowls, you could hit the food court in Mitsuwa marketplace.

For Korean Tofu, there a many places along Bergen Boulevard and Broad Avenues along the Fort Lee/Palisades Park corridors.

Last for the gourmet....there is Picnic Caterers

Thank you for your info. Looking for take-out, maybe beef barley???

    2. There are 2 places that I always love the soup at and I was surprised with both of them. One was this little Diner near my parents house - The Butler Family Diner. They have 2 different soups each day and French Onion is available everyday. I have been in so many times and have tried Chicken and Rice, Beef Orzo, Italian Wedding, New England and Manhattan Clam Chowders, Chicken Egg Lemon and Beef Barley. I have loved them all. My parents eat there often and say there is a ton more soups I need to try.

The second place is Kings Supermarket. They have the greatest soups. I have had soups from Midland Park and Creskill. I have tried the Mexican Meatball, Chicken Tortilla, Lentil, Split Pea, Roasted Potato, Vegetable and Chicken Noodle. They all are so good. They usually have at least 4 and as many as 6 options out at time so you have a good selection. I have gotten my whole office hooked on their soups.

Have to give another shout-out for the Kings Chicken Tortilla! I haven't had the Mexican Meatball yet, but that's a co-worker's favorite. The CT is so good that if they have it and I already have lunch with me, I'll get a container and save it for the next day. It's THAT good.
That said, I was VERY disappointed by their Chicken Noodle...

The chicken noodle is my least favorite but i didn't find it to be too bad. I also notice there is a huge difference from the packaged soups and the Hot soups. The hot soups are sooo much better.

Kings Supermarkets? If you go there at 8 AM, you'll see them preparing those soups from a dry mix. Aaargh!!!

It's a very local place, but if you are ever around Closter, NJ stop at Isabella's deli for soups made 100% from scratch. And you can tell by the consistency and the taste. Silver Spoon in Ridgewood also has decent soups, but pricey.

Most diners and kosher delis take canned soups and doctor 'em up a bit. Not horrible, but not homemade, either. Homemade soup is a dying art, it seems.

              Reviving this thread...

Now that Sima's in Fairlawn has closed and taken my incredible soup selection with it....

Looking for North African, Israeli, or Middle-Eastern soups in Bergen (preferably in area of route 208 - i.e. Ridgewood, Paramus, etc.).

              Thanks!!

It's a tough time of year to find soups. There are much more available starting in November...

You're right - and no, I don't need them right now - just thinking ahead to the winter! Anywhere you (or anyone else) know of that might have the above on a regular basis? Thanks!
