Pipers Kilt...OH NOOOO?!?!?!

Ok I am a Corner Bistro covnert so you guys know what I am into. I never found Pipers Kilt (Eastchester) necassarily better than Corner Bistro....but I have always thought the Kilt had EXCELLENT burgers. Top 5 plain pub burger I have ever had.

So now i am worried. I have been there twice in the past month and a half and both times the burgers where not good. Overcooked, dry, tasteless. This is after maybe 40 plus trips in the past 3 years. Not only where the burgers upsetting but it appears that they have changes to the dreaded coated fries garbage!!!

Anyone else experience this lately?? I wont condemn the place until 3 poor trips in a row....but I am scared that I may have to find a new local burger haven!!!

  1. Funny you should mention it--I thought it was us! The last time we were there everything tasted awful. So bad that we did not eat. The owner woman noticed, we were regulars, and did not charge us. This was over a month ago and we haven't been back. I miss the place the way it used to be. We used to go 2 or 3 times a month. Now I need a new burger place. Any suggestions?

BTW do you mean Corner Bistro in the city or is there a local one?

I agree with both of you. Used to love to make the trek down county for a pipers burger, not anymore. The burger was tasteless and maybe it's me, but seemed smaller. The owners are the same so I don't know what the issue is, new cook maybe? Last week I was in the Eastchester area for lunch and was craving a good burger. I would always opt for pipers but decided on American Bistro in Tuchahoe. Fantastic burger. Sauteed onions and gorgonzola with a pile of homemade shoestring fries. Hit the spot! It was great to sit at the bar for lunch, have aburger and a beer in a nice atmosphere.

Thanks, tried the American Bistro. The burger was good, the fries were great! Nice service too.

        Corner Bistro!

Memories come flooding of city days many, many moons ago.

I will have to go back and see how much it's changed.

Oh NOOOOOO that is so upsetting!!! Now im worried the place is lost forever.

Oh and no i mean the one in the city hahahaha if there was a local one i would still be there a few times a month!!

        2. Weird- I didn't think so highly of the place until I had a FANTASTIC burger there two weeks ago. Must be a hit or miss situation.

OMG seriously this is weird. I was such a big fan of pipers kilt and the on halloween when me and my bf went, i mentioned to him that the burger was really not that great. I just thought it was maybe because it was halloween?! I guess not!!

          2. Having just moved to Inwood, the burgers at the 207th Pipers Kilt can still hold their own. The same goes for the 231st location. While the taste has remained the same, I feel the burgers fall apart much faster than before. They never were a perfect looking burger to begin with, but lately they seem to lose form rather quickly. This hasn't forced me to look elsewhere yet.

In terms of taste my medium rare always comes cooked the way I like, bleeding. No dryness here.

My most recent burger was not as juicy and was bland...

that's sad to hear. i've always loved pipers kilt for their burgers and have told many people over the years to head over there for the experience. I haven't been in about a year and the last time i was there the burgers were as good as always...
i think that you get a great burger at sams of gedney way. a bit expensive but good so is the burger at porter house.

                1. re: kaaaassss

Porter House makes a mediocre burger at best. Too thin.

I haven't noticed much of a drop at pipers, but maybe I'll have to go back now on a research mission!

James Joyce makes a good juicy burger. Brazen Fox is okay, but relies too much on the char and seasoning. The great thing about the bistro and pipers is they lightly season, dont pack it too tight, and let the meat do the talking. They also use a high fat percentage. I can't seem to find anything close in lower westchester.

In 25+ years I still haven't gotten a bad burger from the PK's on 231.....

I'm a fan of the burgers at Beechmont Tavern in NR, although I haven't been there since the summer.

                2. I recently had dinner there with a coworker, and the service was horrible. The waitress disappeared.
