My sister. The vegetarian. So she doesn't feel left out at Thanksgiving, we let her toss in what ever she wants to fry before we fry the turkey. Ok, that and it's just fun to fry stuff. We're going to do pickles again, and she's suggesting mashed potato balls. Any other fun suggestions?

Well, we always do the let's-toss-stuff-in-before-the-turkey too. We've done deep fried candy (works great for leftover hallowe'en candy, dipped in batter of course) and "chicken fries" (sorta chicken fingers shaped like french fries) and regular fries. This year we had been aiming to do apple cider donuts but we all forgot to research a recipe (we did our Thanksgiving yesterday).

The pickles sound great. Maybe some breaded zucchini sticks. Sweet potato fries! You could make risotto balls (both veg and not). Please report back and share your experiments. I need to keep a list for next year. :)

baked macaroni and cheese cut into small squares, coated with bread crumbs

funnel cake!

buy some prepackaged pie crusts, and make:
1.Samosas
2. fried pies (little triangle shapes filled with frozen fruit. - berries, peaches) Think mcd applie pie things.

For non veg, a turkey fryer set up is a perfect opp to churn out a big load of delicious hot wings. Then you can just spin them into a bunch of different sauces. I love whipping out the turkey fryer for bird day!

What we tossed in.
Avocado
Pickles
Orka
artichokes
Mashed potato balls
Sweet potato chips

The orka and avacodo were the winners. The avacodo was just terrific. We used a bisquick beer batter and it was light and fluffly.
the only thing that really didn't work was the mashed potato balls. They just exploded in the oil

The avocado sounds great! Is the beer batter recipe on the box, or can you share it with me. The best part of doing that is that I wouldn't have to share, since no one else will eat avocados!

What do you think went wrong with the mashed potato balls? I have a recipe that looks pretty foolproof, but now I'm afraid to try it.
