Birthday in Vancouver
Hello everyone,
A friend of mine is having a birthday party soon and I am in charge of the restaurant reservation for 10-15 people. I was thinking an Izakaya would be fitting but I have never been to one and was curious if this would be a good idea. If some of you could also make some suggestions of a good spot including any other styles of restaurants that would helpful.
Thanks in advance
I once made a reservation @ Guu on Robson but I'd recommend the Gastown location-if they'll take that many people.
An Izakaya is more a bar than a restaurant-with the Guus anyway-there's a lot of noise and shouting-the food arrives quickly as does the booze but it's all on the hectic side.
Failing that I can't empathise due diligence enough-the horror stories I read about on Dinehere.ca every week about how large groups were treated poorly at different places around town-some quite well known- are enough to turn a person' stomach-literally.
Sorry I don't have any other recommendations-the sort of places I frequent don't take that many people at once.
Perhaps if you provided more details about age and food preferences and budget we could offer something more-never a shortage of opinion in this place.

Without knowing your budget, it's hard to make a solid rec. I do recommend Cioppino's/Enoteca where they have sectionable areas for large groups. The service there is generally excellent.
For izakaya -- Along with the Gastown Guu (Sam's rec above), Hapa will be able to handle a group that size in the lounge side of the restaurant.

Something different .. you might want to also consider something like Alibi room in Gastown. Not an Izakaya, but is good for large groups. The restaurant has a nice space with fun, lively atmosphere, food is not 'wow' but very decent, has a great beer / drink list ..
